In-Network MEDICARE Therapists in Phoenix, Paradise Valley, Scottsdale, and Cave Creek

If you have Medicare and you’re looking for a therapist in Phoenix, here’s the good news: Medicare does cover therapy, and — thanks to a recent expansion — more therapists than ever can accept it.

How Medicare Covers Therapy

Original Medicare (Part B) covers outpatient mental-health care, including individual therapy. After your Part B deductible, Medicare typically pays 80% of the approved amount and you’re responsible for the remaining 20% coinsurance — which a Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plan often covers, if you have one.

One important recent change: as of January 1, 2024, Licensed Professional Counselors (LPCs) and Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFTs) can now enroll as Medicare providers — joining clinical psychologists and clinical social workers, who already could. That meaningfully widened the pool of therapists able to see Medicare members.

Have a Medicare Advantage Plan Instead?

Many people with “Medicare” actually have a Medicare Advantage plan (Part C) run by a private insurer. If your card says Humana, UnitedHealthcare, Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, or Cigna, your therapy coverage runs through that plan — and you’ll find the details on the matching payer webpage on our site. Currently we only accept Medicare Advantage plans for Aetna, BCBS, and Humana.

How to Check Your Blue Cross Blue Shield Behavioral Health Benefits

A two-minute check saves any guesswork:

  • For Original Medicare, call 1-800-MEDICARE or log in at medicare.gov. For a Medicare Advantage plan, use the number on the back of your card.

  • Ask: Is my provider Medicare-enrolled? What’s my coinsurance after the deductible? Does my supplement cover the remaining 20%? Is telehealth covered?

What Therapy at Marley Mental Health Looks Like

We’re a Phoenix group practice offering individual therapy for older adults in person and online across Arizona, with clinicians experienced in anxiety, depression, grief, trauma, and the transitions that come with later life. You don’t have to be in crisis to reach out for support.

What it Will Cost

With Original Medicare, you’ll generally owe 20% coinsurance after your Part B deductible — often covered in full if you have a supplement. With a Medicare Advantage plan, you’ll typically owe a copay set by that plan. The most reliable way to know your exact cost is to confirm with Medicare or your Advantage plan directly. When you reach out, we’ll check coverage as a courtesy and help you get started — but confirming your eligibility, benefits, and whether a provider is enrolled/in-network is ultimately your responsibility.

Ready When You Are

You can also learn more about our therapists or explore individual therapy to see what working together looks like.

Coverage, benefits, and in-network status vary by plan and can change. Confirming your own eligibility and benefits is ultimately the member’s responsibility; we recommend verifying directly with your insurer before your first session.
